OKLAHOMA CITY (October 26, 2026) — The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today the 2026 Division II Redwood Conference champions, Salinas Cosmos F.C., will join the league’s top-flight for the 2027 season. With today’s announcement, the club becomes the WPSL’s second Division II side to make the jump to its first division, joining Fayetteville, N.C.-based Carolina Crew FC.
“The decision to enter the WPSL’s first division came from our desire to challenge ourselves at a higher level, provide more opportunities for our players, and continue growing Salinas Cosmos as a competitive club,” María Zamora, Salina Cosmos F.C. co-founder and CEO, said. “We’re ready to test ourselves against strong competition and take the next step in our development.”
Founded in 2023, Salina Cosmos F.C. serves as the pinnacle of Sailan Soccer Femenil, an all-women owned and operated organization founded by Zamora and J. Manuela Rangel that provides playing opportunities, mentorship, and community support for underserved Monterey County female soccer players. The Salinas Soccer Femenil Academy was added in 2024 and the comprehensive programs now serve more than 150 female players.
“Our success comes from the people involved in the club. We have a board that takes part in every decision, players who buy into the vision, and coaches and supporters who believe in what we’re building,” Zamora said.
Salinas Cosmos F.C. makes the jump to the first division after winning the 2026 Redwoods Conference championship in its first WPSL Division II season thanks to an undefeated division campaign and topping Placer United Soccer Club 2-0 in the conference final. Prior to joining the WPSL last season, the Salinas, Calif.-based club found success in UPSL competition, winning the NorCal Conference regular season in its debut and the conference title in 2024.
“We celebrate our wins, learn from our setbacks, and keep pushing forward. We are very proud of how much Salinas Cosmos have accomplished in such a short time, but we’re even more motivated by what we can continue to build together,” Zamora said.
The 29th WPSL season runs from mid-May through mid-July. The league’s official national alignment will be announced at the WPSL Annual General Meeting at the beginning of the new year. The full 2027 WPSL schedule will be announced in March
