If there is one thing that California Storm knows how to do, it's win. And the Davis-based league juggernauts have done a lot of winning in its 27-season history. Chapter 28 is no different.
Seventeen goalscorers propelled Storm to the Sacramento Valley Division title, averaging four goals per game and outscoring opponents 40 to three. Veteran keeper Abbie Faingold remained dominant in the goal, leading a defense that recorded a 0.3 goals against average while only conceding three goals in its 10-game regular season slate.
The Storm’s only blemish on its otherwise perfect season came in Week Four when it hosted Iron Rose FC at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex. After going down 1-0 at halftime after allowing a goal in the closing second of the first half for the first time this season, Senai Rogers scored her only goal of the season, with a 83rd equalizer to secure the draw and save a point in the division table.
While Storm conceded two more goals in its second half of the season, it won those five games comfortably, outscoring opponents by 22 to two. The Storm finished its regular season slate with nine wins,11 points clear of second place in the standings.
Storm now looks to clinch its 16th conference title and book its ticket to its 18th playoff appearance when it takes on San Francisco Nighthawks in the NorCal Conference championship Friday, July 3 in San Mateo, Calif.
