About the WPSL
The Women's Premier Soccer League returns for its 26th season of play this summer as the longest-active women's soccer league in the United States. The WPSL will boast over 140 clubs nationwide for the 2024 season and solidify itself as still the largest women's soccer league in the world. Team rosters feature elite collegiate, post-collegiate, international, and standout prep student-athletes. Many of the United States' most accomplished women's national team players have played in the WPSL since its inception in 1998, including household names such as Alex Morgan, Rose Lavelle, Megan Rapinoe, and Brandi Chastain.


Program Overview

The WPSL is not only committed to advancing women's soccer on the field, but also to providing opportunities for the next set of sports professionals who are eager to jump into the world of sports off the field. These individuals prove to be a crucial asset to the coverage and development of the women's game and sports in general. The WPSL Internship program is an excellent opportunity for students to gain real-time knowledge and experience with a national league that will prepare them with the skills and confidence for a career in the sports industry. The WPSL Internship program encourages creative and professional growth in a collaborative setting and team atmosphere. 

Program Opportunities
All interns will work under the Department of Communications and Creative Services and report to the department director. There are several roles available for the 2024 season including:

  • Journalism/Sports Writing

  • Graphic & Video Design

  • Photography

  • Social Media Managment

Program Requirements

The WPSL Internship Program is a non-paid program that awards college-credit hours. As such, applicants must be enrolled in a degree or certificate-granting program with an accredited college or university that will grant you academic credit for your internship. 

All internships can be fulfilled remotely so applicants must have access to reliable internet and a personal computer. Weekend hours and summer holidays will be expected. Interns will also be expected to attend virtual, weekly department meetings. 


Special Note
Applications must be submitted by April 5. Selection procress will be held  April 8-12. There will be a two week training for season prep from April 17 - 30. Official start date is May 1. The WPSL regular season will be played from May 6 - July 7. WPSL Playoffs are played July 13-14 and the WPSL Championship is played July 19-21. 


 

 

JOURNALISM INTERNSHIP
The WPSL is looking for 2-3 interns to fulfill editorial coverage needs. Journalism interns will work in the communications sector of the department and report directly to the Communications & Creative Services Director. Interns will work with the editorial team in developing written coverage of the 2024 WPSL Season. Editorial coverage is expected to be centered around the league, its teams, and its players in the form of featured articles, match recaps, coach/player spotlights, etc. Interns will be assigned a specific conference and will learn the inside workings of the editorial process. Interns will also be expected to attend weekly editorial meetings.

GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNSHIP
The WPSL is looking for 2-3 design interns with backgrounds in graphic design and video/motion design. Graphic Design interns will work in the creative services sector of the department and report directly to the Communications & Creative Services Director. Interns will work with the design team to produce creative content for the 2024 WPSL Season. Interns will be expected to attend weekly department meetings.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP
The WPSL is looking for 2-3 design interns to assist with management, engagement, and content needs for WPSL Regional social channels. Social Media interns will work in the digital media sector of the department and report directly to the Communications & Creative Services Director. Interns manage 1 of 4 WPSL Region channels for the 2024 WPSL Season. Interns will be expected to attend weekly department meetings.

PHOTOGRAPHY INTERNSHIP
The WPSL is looking for 3-4 design interns who will work in the creative services sector of the department and report directly to the Communications & Creative Services Director. Interns will be expected to attend assigned games for the 2024 WPSL Season and shoot coverage that meets WPSL Branding Guidelines.
