EAST REGION SEASON PREVIEW

The Women’s Premier Soccer League rolled out its full 2024 schedule today. East Region play opens this year this year on Sunday, May 12. The 2024 Central Region schedule features 153 regular season matches between May 12 and July 6, with 35 returning and eight teams competing for the conference title.

Format

  • Champions of the Metropolitan and Northeastern conferences are determined by regular season record.
  • Division winners of the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic conferences play Saturday, July 6 to determine conference champions.
  • Conference championship games are hosted by the winners of the Great River and Commonwealth divisions.
  • The Metropolitan Conference winner will host the East Region Playoffs on July 13-14, with the champion moving on to the WPSL Championship on July 20-21 in Stillwater, Okla.

Beadling Soccer Club kicks off divisional play against newcomer Corktown FC Saturday, May 18. Celebrating their tenth year in the WPSL, the Columbus Eagles FC and Ambassadors Cleveland both open their 2024 campaigns against the Corktown FC expansion on Sunday, May 19 and Friday, May 24 respectively.

Greater Toledo Futbol Club plays its debut WPSL match on the road at Beadling Soccer Club on Saturday, May 25, before opening at home against Corktown FC Saturday, June 1.

The Metropolitan Conference is the only conference in the East Region without an expansion team for the 2024 season.

Conference play opens Saturday, June 1 with STA hosting New York Dutch Lions FC and SUSA FC hosting Brooklyn City FC. The NJ Wizards SC open the season at home versus the New York Athletic Club on Saturday, June 8.

Reigning conference champions, Downtown United SC, have yet to record a loss during the regular season in the club’s four seasons in the league finishing the 2023 season ranked 13th in the National Power Rankings and fourth in the region. DUSC opens its 2024 campaign at home versus STA on Sunday, June 9.

Colonial Division play kicks off Saturday, May 18 when Penn Fusion hosts SJEB FC. Expansion side, West-Mont United kicks off its inaugural campaign at Real Central NJ on Sunday, May 19.

With one of the most enduring histories in U.S. soccer, Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals – Liberty begins its second season competing in the WPSL Thursday, May 30 on the road at Real Central NJ. Fever SC opens its 2023 schedule on the road at Penn Fusion SA on May 29.

Two Colonial Division clubs finished 2023 in the National Power Rankings top 20: Penn Fusion SA finished the season ranked 16th going 7-2-0 on the season, and division winners SJEB FC finished ranked 12th in the league, going 8-0-1 on the season.

Hershey FC and Reading United A.C. open their 2024 campaigns Monday, May 20. Expansion side LVU Rosh gets its feet wet at Reading United A.C. Friday, May 24, while HEX FC Tempest open division play Thursday, May 30 hosting fellow expansion side, LVU Rush.

Clarkson Soccer Club finished 2023 8-0-2, ranked second in the East Region and eight in the National Power Rankings.

The conference’s lone expansion side, Merrimack Valley Hawks FC open WPSL play Saturday, May 25 on the road at Rhode Island Rogues.
