THE WPSL WELCOMES NEW YORK EXPANSION TEAM, LED BY FORMER USWNT GOALKEEPER, TO ITS METROPOLITAN CONFERENCE

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (March 3, 2022) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today, Brooklyn City F.C. has joined the league for the 2022 season. The announcement comes after the league unveiled its 2022 Roster of Teams and Alignment. For its inaugural season, Brooklyn City F.C. will compete in the Metropolitan Conference of the league's East Region.
 

“We are thrilled about the opportunity to join the oldest largest women’s league in the world and offer our BCFC women’s first-team strong competition in the NY/NJ market this summer," Jesse DeLorenzo, Brooklyn City F.C. founder and president, said. "Our priority and focus on the player experience will be well-served in the WPSL, as we continue to build and expand our women’s program under Coach Wyant.  Brooklyn City supporters, families, and youth players will be highly anticipating our first WPSL match this summer.”
 

Established in 2017, Brooklyn City F.C. has stayed committed to offering a club-based player pathway that encourages progression and development that allows players to stay within the Brooklyn community. The club has created a professional environment that embodies the highest standards possible, regardless of the player’s current level or starting point.
 

Since its inception, the Brooklyn City F.C. organization has fielded women’s teams in local amateur leagues and created unique local programming and events to elevate the girls' and women’s soccer in the NYC market, such as the Brooklyn Women’s Cup and the Women’s Super LeagueIn 2019, the club launched its men’s program that competes in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League – one of the oldest men’s amateur leagues in the country. The organization also features over 20 youth teams.
 

Kim Wyant, Brooklyn City F.C. women's general manager, will continue to serve as the club’s head coach for its WPSL team.  The former USWNT goalkeeper earned 16 caps after the national team’s inaugural 1985 match in Italy. Wyant is the current head coach of the men’s soccer program at New York University (NYU), a member of the NCAA Division III, and has led the team since 2015. Most notably, Wyant is the only female head coach of a NCAA men’s soccer team.
 

The club has also announced Amy Marron will return as Wyant’s assistant coach for the 2022 WPSL season. Marron currently serves as the assistant coach for her alma mater St. John’s University. The New York native earned All-Big East honors during her collegiate career before moving on to play professionally in Iceland in 2014 with Afturleding.
 

For the 2022 season, the Metropolitan Conference will not include divisions and features six other teams for Brooklyn City F.C. to compete against. The league will announce the 2022 schedule by regions later this month.
