ST. LOUIS (Dec. 7, 2022) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League confirmed today that Lou Fusz Athletic will officially join its first tier for the 2023 season after competing in WPSL U21 this summer.

"Taking another step and progressing our spot within the WPSL is a principle within our Club,” Dan Gargan, Lou Fusz Athletic managing director, said. “We had a very successful summer in ’22 [in the WPSL U21] with our alumnae and will now be challenging our players again with higher-level competition in ’23 and beyond.”

Lou Fusz Athletic (LFA) was founded in 1992 under the Lou Fusz Soccer Club name before rebranding to its current identity in 2016 in celebration of its 25th Anniversary.  In its 30 year history, LFA has grown into a pioneer for youth sports in the greater St. Louis metro by adding lacrosse and American football alongside its state-of-the-art facilities.

For the 2023 season, LFA has named Jeff Tottleben as its head coach after a successful 2022 WPSL U21 run. The club’s WPSL U21 squad consisted of top collegiate athletes, including 11 NCAA Division I standouts. Among those were Saint Louis University’s second-leading scorer Emily Gaebe, who recorded nine goals and six assists in the 2022 collegiate campaign and Missouri State goalkeeper Camielle Day, who made 79 saves on the 2022 college season while recording a 1.27 SV%.

“It has been abundantly clear to me since moving to St. Louis that the young ladies in town are some of the best in the country,” Gargan said. “We need to do our part with organizations like the WPSL to further their development in the game."
