OAKLAND, Calif. (Jan. 31, 2023) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today that The Town FC will join the league as its first expansion for the 2024 season. With the announcement, The Town FC spearheads its mission of using soccer to unite and uplift the Oakland and East Bay communities both on and off the field.

"This is a huge step forward for our club and we are committed to bringing a championship-caliber program from day one to The Town,” Gina Woodward, The Town FC head of women’s soccer, said.

“What impressed us with the WPSL was their track record of helping to advance players to the pro game, and we see our involvement as a tremendous launchpad for us to propel local players in Oakland and the surrounding East Bay to the highest levels of women’s soccer."

The Town FC was founded in 2022 by a group of passionate individuals who seek to elevate the game in Oakland and the East Bay region by establishing a youth-development structure for both players and coaches that creates the foundation for a Path-to-Pro environment. With this vision, the club aims to springboard Bay Area talent to the highest of its abilities.

Built on the pride of Oakland, the club is focused on creating and driving a movement that uses soccer to elevate more than just the game on the field but also unites a community with support, passion, and influence – a movement by people, for The Town.

The club and league will release more details as the progress unfolds.
