THE WPSL EXPANDS FURTHER INTO
PHILADELPHIA METRO AHEAD OF 2024 SEASON

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Dec. 21, 2023) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League confirmed today that West-Mont United will compete in the 2024 season as an expansion team. With the announcement, the League widens its footprint in the Philadelphia metro.

“We are really excited to be joining such an established national league. I know the WPSL well and our members and community are very fortunate to have the WPSL footprint finally in our yard,” Daniel Clitnovici, West-Mont United WPSL general manager, said.

“The WPSL experience is greater than just the game, it's about the experiences and genuine bonds this platform will bring to our community.”

West-Mont United Soccer Association (WMUSA) is one of the oldest youth soccer organizations in its region. After launching in 1976 with just two co-ed teams under the Valley Soccer Association brand, WMUSA now has a membership of 2,500 youth players. The club’s mission to join the WPSL is to offer opportunities to its members and community to be active and be strong and increase the visibility and accessibility of women’s soccer while competing on a national stage.

“We’re incredibly excited to join the Women’s Premier Soccer League,” Steve Sawyer, West-Mont United executive director, said.

“Our participation in the WPSL improves our player development pathway by offering our alumni the opportunity to come back to West-Mont to compete in the top women’s amateur league in the country.”

Under the leadership of Clitnovici and Sawyer, the duo brings extensive soccer experience to the club’s WPSL side. Clitnovic has held notable coaching positions with notable programs including the NWSL (Western New York Flash), MLS (Colorado Rapids), and the NCAA (Ohio State, Villanova, and Ursinus College). Before his coaching stint, the Australia native recorded over 10 years of playing professionally in Australia, Romania, England, Greece, and Spain. Sawyer also brings over 10 years of experience with the MLS.

Tickets and home venue will be announced by the club in the coming weeks.
