TO PROPEL ITS MISSION OF ‘DOING MORE’

HOUSTON (Jan. 23, 2024) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League welcomes its second Houston team ahead of the upcoming season with the acceptance of Futbolera Select as a 2024 expansion side.

“We are excited to be part of such a prestigious league like the WPSL and to compete against some of the best teams,” Stefanny A. Flores, Futbolera Select president and general manager, said.

“Joining the league (WPSL) will open up more competitive opportunities for girls in our communities and we are ready to play at the next level. This is our Era, Futbolera.”

Founded in 2019, Futbolera Select has focused its last four years on assisting female athletes to pursue collegiate or professional soccer opportunities. The club looks to the WPSL to provide a competitive and enjoyable environment for all its members, despite their economic status, to obtain life-empowering opportunities.

Since its launch, the club has operated under three core values: resilience, love, and empowerment. Under these values, Futbolera Select prioritizes providing opportunities where women excel both on and off the field and teaches its players to persist amid adversity to overcome as a team and be passionate about the game while respecting everyone who is part of it.

Futbolera’s operating staff includes Miguel Ruiz as assistant manager, Victor Hernandez as executive director, and Sonia Sebastian as gameday operations. The club has not named its head coach for its inaugural WPSL season as of today.

Tickets will be sold via Futbolera’s social media channels or on game day at the entrance with kids accessing each home game free.

The WPSL league office will unveil its official 2024 alignment in the coming weeks.
