JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC TAKES WPSL FIELD IN 2024


JACKSONVILLE, Fla (Jan. 30, 2024) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League continues expansion in its Sunshine Conference as it officially welcomes Jacksonville Armada FC to its 2024 Roster of Teams. With the announcement, the club becomes the League’s second expansion side in Florida for the 2024 season.
 

“We are very proud to be part of such an established league, the WPSL strives to be the best on and off the field product in women’s soccer [and] we will strive to be competitive and prepare the best environment for our players,” Nathan Walter, Jacksonville Armada FC president, said.

Jacksonville Armada FC will embark on its 10th anniversary after its founding in 2014. With its celebration, the club confirms its acquisition of fellow WPSL sides – United Soccer Alliance and Florida Sol. This rebrand will become Jacksonville Armada FC Women’s U23 team which will take the WPSL field this summer.
 

“The club’s strategic acquisition and long-term partnership will aim to elevate the standard of women’s soccer development in the region and aligns seamlessly with both organization’s commitment to fostering excellence on and off the field,” Jacksonville Armada FC officials said in a club statement.

Jacksonville Armada FC also announced at the end of 2023 that club owner, Robert Palmer, is leading the effort to bring the National Women’s Soccer League to Northeast Florida by exploring bids for NWSL expansion in Jacksonville.
 

The WPSL unveiled its official alignment during its Annual General Meeting in Oklahoma City on Jan. 27 and with that Jacksonville Armada FC will compete in a nine-team Sunshine Conference with teams from Miami, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Sarasota. The conference is expected to play an eight-to-10-game unbalanced schedule with the conference champion being awarded to the first-place finisher in standings after the regular season.
