SAN ANTONIO RUNNERS SOCCER CLUB SET FOR 2024 WPSL DEBUT

SAN ANTONIO (March 7, 2024) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League welcomes the San Antonio Runners Soccer Club for the upcoming 2024 WPSL season.

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of a new WPSL team to San Antonio,” Mason Rankin, San Antonio Runners Soccer Club founder and director, said.

“Joining the WPSL increases our ability to provide equal access to professional development opportunities for players across South Texas. With 250 players from the league signed to play professionally over the past six years, the WPSL offers an established platform that provides South Texas players an outlet to the next level."

Founded in 2018, the Runners began its women's program in 2022. The club serves as a pathway for players from across South Texas to college and professional ranks. The Runners currently fields women’s, men’s, and youth academy teams. Renowned nationally for recognizing and developing previously overlooked talent, five Runners players have gone on to play professionally, and to date, the club has placed more than 50 young men and women in college programs.

The Runners will compete in the South Region’s six-team Lone Star Conference. The conference features teams from Austin, Fort Worth, and Houston, and will feature a San Antonio derby. The Runners will play a 10-game conference schedule, facing each of the five conference opponents home and away, with the conference winner hosting the South Region Playoff.

“Runners is about taking young adults who, for whatever reason, would not have a chance to be seen and give them the opportunity,” Lance Carlisle, San Antonio Runners Soccer Club director of adult programs, said.

“With the success the WPSL has had in showcasing players on a national stage over the past 25 years, we feel now is the right time for our club to join this prestigious league, increasing the available options for women across South Texas.”

The Runners’ ticket information will be announced in the coming weeks and the full WPSL schedule is set to release March 21.
