SOUTH REGION RANKINGS - WEEK 3

Published May 29, 2024

After three weeks at No. 2, Nashville Rhythm F.C. has finally ascended to the top. With all but one team in the Week 3 Top 10 unbeaten—No. 10 Georgia Impact has yet to play—the question is: Can Nashville hold onto that No. 1 spot. Also moving up this week are the West Florida Flames, up two spots to second, along with Classics Elite SA and DECATUR FC, both entering the Top 10 for the first time.

1. NASHVILLE RHYTHM F.C. (2-0-0)

   Southeast Conference

   Week 2 Rank: 2nd

With two consecutive four-goal games, Nashville is an offensive force to be reckoned with. Angeline Kieh accounts for five of those goals. She leads the Southeast Conference with five goals, followed by the Rhythm’s Emma Brown with two. Nashville can cement its place at the top with wins over its Week 4 double header, away at the Georgia Impact (0-0-0) Saturday, June 1 in the South Region Match of the Week and home versus FC Birmingham (1-0-0) the next day.

2. WEST FLORIDA FLAMES (2-0-0)

   Sunshine Conference

   Week 2 Rank: 4th

After opening the season with a 3-1 win over Seminole Ice, West Florida took to the road in Week 3 to face AGC Football. Tali O’Leary, Brianne Bonzheim, Mikki Hill, and Sydney Weslowski scored in the 4-0 win to help push the Flames to the No. 2. The Flames kicks off Week 4 at home versus FC Prime on Saturday, June 1 then travels to face Dade County Football Club the next day.

3. CHARLOTTE EAGLES (1-0-0)

   Atlantic Conference — Carolinas Division

   Week 2 Rank: 3rd

The Charlotte Eagles hold tight at third after a 2-1 win over Port City FC to open the season. Emmi Dunn leveled the score at one after the Eagles went down a goal early in the match. A Port City own goal with 15 minutes to play in the second half salvaged the win for the 2023 WPSL Champions. Charlotte takes to the road for two Week 4 fixtures: Wednesday, May 29 at Women’s Football Club of Charlotte (0-0-0), and Saturday, June 1 at Port City FC (0-1-0).

4. ARLINGTON SOCCER (2-0-0)

Atlantic Conference — The District Division

    Week 2 Rank: 1st

A Week 3 bye pushed the expansion side out of the South’s top spot after wins over UK F.C. in Week 1 and Alexandria Reds in Week 2. Arlington returns to action Sunday, June 2 at the Washington Dutch Lions FC (0-0-0). With two wins on the books, Arlington holds the top spot in The District Division table.

5. McLEAN SOCCER (1-0-0)

Atlantic Conference — The District Division

   Week 2 Rank: 5th

Holding onto the fifth spot for a second week, McLean Soccer is proving to be a true The District Division contender. After a 7-2 road win at UK F.C. in Week 2, and bye in Week 3, McLean returns to action Sunday, June 2 hosting UK F.C (0-2-0).

6. Jacksonville Armada FC (1-0-1)

   Sunshine Conference

   Week 2 Rank: Unranked

Coming off a 3-0 win at FC Prime in its season opener, Jacksonville bounced into the sixth spot followed by a weather-called game that left it a 0-0 draw with Dade County Football Club last Saturday. The Armada face back-to-back road matches Friday, May 31 at Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC (0-0-0), and Saturday, June 1 at Cape Coral Cyclones (0-0-0).

7. CLASSICS ELITE SA (2-0-0)

   Lone Star Conference

   Week 2 Rank: Unranked

Classics Elite SA jumped into the Top 10—and the top spot in the Lone Star Conference— from a 3-2 road win at Futbolera Select Friday, May 24. After conceding an early goal, Jenna Salazar pulled Classics Elite level in the 30’ minute. Taylor Jernigan later put the visitors in the lead right before the halftime whistle. A 62’ minute own goal leveled the score at two before Jernigan netted the winner with five minutes to play in the match. The Classics travel to eighth ranked Houston Aces Sunday, June 2 to play for the top spot in the Lone Star Conference table.

8. HOUSTON ACES (1-1-0)

   Lone Star Conference

   Week 2 Rank: 7th

The Houston Aces hold firm in the number 7 spot despite 1-0 loss at Austin Rise FC. The loss to Austin knocked the Aces from the top of the Lone Star Conference table. Houston is away at Futbolera Select (0-1-0) Wednesday, May 29 and then home Sunday, June 2 versus 7th ranked Classics Elite SA (2-0-0).

9. DECATUR FC (1-0-0)

   Southeast Conference

   Week 2 Rank: Unranked

A 5-0 win over Atlanta Fire United pushed the expansion side into the Top 10 for the first time in the club’s short WPSL history. Becky Contreras tallied twice in the win, along with Breanna Barley, Maysoon El-Shami, and Sarah Greiner. In Week 4 action, DECATUR travels to FC Nashville Wolves (0-1-0) Saturday, June 1.

10. GEORGIA IMPACT (0-0-0)

    Southeast Conference

    Week 2 Rank: 6th

Action gets underway for the Georgia Impact Saturday, June 1 when it faces the No. 1 ranked team in the South Region, Nashville Rhythm F.C. (2-0-0). The Impact went 5-1-2 in conference play in 2023, with a plus-14 goal differential to finish the regular season ranked 10th in the South Region.
