NEWS: SJEB FC TAKES COLONIAL DIVISION CROWN

SJEB FC WINS SECOND COLONIAL DIVISION TITLE

A pair of Matchweek Eight home wins put SJEB FC back at the top of the Colonial Division. The club went 7-1-2 to earn its second division title in the club’s five WPSL seasons.

“The division title was important because we played the match at home in front of many of our youth club fans,” Bill Shute, SJEB FC head coach, said. “It’s about the inspiration we create for the younger kids in the club. Between our home matches and our Girls Only Camps that we run each summer, we are providing opportunities for the younger generation in the club to experience great female role models.”

SJEB kicked off the season with two wins and a draw before picking up its first loss. The club rebounded with two strong wins before a tough 1-0 loss on the road. But the two Matchweek Eight home wins: 3-1 vs. Delaware Ospreys followed by a 9-1 win over Fever SC put SJEB through to the Mid-Atlantic Conference Final.

“We struggled slightly in the beginning of the season because we have a very young roster and players who have played at a variety of clubs, so it took a little while to gel on the field, Adrianna Pepe, SJEB co-captain, said. “We made training a priority. That dedication and commitment really helped the team become a cohesive unit later in the season.”

SJEB led the division statistically at both ends of the field, tallying 26 goals for, and eight against.

The club was led by Naomi Nnewihe (Brown University, 2025- ) with eight goals in seven appearances for SJEB this season.

“Watching high school senior and rising college freshman, Naomi Nnewihe, grow and blossom into a bona fide collegiate player who is going to dominate the Ivy League was one of the highlights of the year,” Shute said. “It was rewarding to see her take the Colonial Division scoring lead in the final game of the regular season.

SJEB fell to PA Classics in the Mid-Atlantic Conference final 5-3 in extra time, going 7-1-3 on the season.
