In a battle for first place in the Wasatch Division, Black Diamond FC hosted La Roca FC delivered an impressive 4–1 victory at Weber High School.

“I am incredibly proud of the team tonight. So many players stepped up in key moments. Our focus, intensity, energy, and execution of the game plan were outstanding and helped us earn a huge result against a quality opponent,” Gabi Cheng, Black Diamond FC head coach, said.

Both teams came out with intensity, but Black Diamond struck first in the 13th minute. Following a quick counterattack, Addi Coon (Westminster University) found Simone Packer (Weber State) at the top of the box, and Packer calmly finished to give Black Diamond a 1–0 lead.

Black Diamond doubled its advantage in the 27th minute when Maddy Moss (Southern Utah) delivered a pass across the box to Lacie Poll (Idaho State) who finished confidently to make it 2–0. La Roca responded shortly after, as Oakley Anderson (Weber State) broke through the back line and finished to cut the deficit to 2–1.

As La Roca pushed numbers forward in search of an equalizer, Black Diamond capitalized on a set-piece opportunity. In the 43rd minute, Cadence Packer (Weber State) earned a free kick on the right side approximately 40 yards from goal. She delivered a perfectly placed ball to the back post, where Addi Coon finished to restore the two-goal advantage before halftime. Black Diamond entered the break leading 3–1.

The final goal came in the 68th minute when Simone Packer won possession in midfield and slipped a perfectly weighted through ball to Lacie Poll. Breaking behind the defense, Poll chipped the advancing goalkeeper to secure her second goal of the night and put the match out of reach at 4–1.

Despite La Roca holding a 10–8 advantage in total shots, Black Diamond was clinical in front of goal, converting 50% of its attempts compared to La Roca’s 10% conversion rate. Goalkeeper Kallie Wallace (USU Eastern) played a crucial role in the victory, recording seven saves to preserve the lead.

Defensively, Brooke Gardner (University of Utah) and Eden Jones (University of Pittsburgh) anchored the back line with several crucial challenges, helping limit La Roca’s attacking opportunities and providing leadership throughout the match. In midfield, Dominique Estrada delivered an outstanding performance, helping Black Diamond control the game both in and out of possession while contributing significantly to the team’s organization and tempo.
