Every time California Storm and Sporting CT meet a national title is on the line.
Last July, in the Women’s Premier Soccer League Championships Final, Sporting knocked off the reigning WPSL champs 4-0 to claim its first WPSL title in its first year in the league.
On Saturday, the two clubs from opposite sides of the country will square off again with another national title on the line, in the inaugural Brandi Chastain Cup Final at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex in Davis, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. PDT. The game, a rematch of the 2025 WPSL Championships Final, will be streamed live on the California Storm YouTube channel.
“We are really excited for this weekend’s games against an opponent we have a ton of respect for in a meaningful game—a cup final,” Tiffany Weimer, Sporting CT player/coach, said.

Named in honor of one of the most iconic players in U.S. soccer history—and a one-time California Storm player—U.S. Soccer’s Adult Council established the Brandi Chastain Cup to crown the top amateur and pre-professional teams in the country.
“The players on teams at this level are incredible athletes and deserve the platform to show what they are capable of,” Jamie Levoy, California Storm executive director, said. “It is an inspiration to future generations about the many pathways there are to play at a high level. We appreciate everyone that has come alongside and created this amazing tournament.”
Serving as hosts of the inaugural final, California Storm is founding members of the WPSL—and one of two remaining as the league enters its 28th season—and the winningest club in WPSL history with 16 conference titles. The Storm has advanced to the WPSL Championships Final nine times including its 2025 loss to Sporting CT, winning a league record five WPSL championships (1999, 2002, 2004, 2022, 2024), including two out of the last four.
California Storm enters Saturday’s match an unbeaten 5-1-0 in Sacramento Valley Division play of the 2026 WPSL season, outscoring opponents 21 to one, posting four shutouts. The club’s only blemish so far this season is a 1-1 home draw to Iron Rose FC in Week Four, which was followed by a 6-0 home win over Napa Valley 1839 FC three days later. Kennedy Mayo and Palestinian International and Week One National Offensive player of the Week, Dalia Asad, lead all Storm goalscorers with four each, followed by Week Two West Region Offensive Player of the Week, Camryn Dillingham. Both Asad and Dillingham are still in high school. Goalkeeper Abby Faingold has started all four games for Storm this season, keeping four clean sheets while posting a 0.2 goal against average.
Playing in what is shaping to be one of the most competitive conferences in the WPSL, Sporting CT enters its second WPSL season with a target on its back. After two wins to open the 2026 season versus in-state rivals, the defending WPSL champs were knocked from its East Region perch in its first road test of the year, falling to RI Rogues FC 3-1 in Providence. Sporting found its footing again after the shocking defeat with a 4-0 home win over expansion side Vermont Wild FC.
Weimer, a former U.S. international who at 41 led the club in scoring with 12 goals in 2025, and Aubrey Kulpa, who is entering her junior year at Penn State University, lead the traditionally high-scoring club with two goals apiece. A total of eight players have scored for Sporting CT in its four games this season. Caitlin Daley, a senior at the University of New Haven, has started all four of Sporting CT’s matches in goal, posting two clean sheets for a 1.0 goal against average.
“I’m really proud of how far this team has come over the years and the players we have in this program,” Weimer said.
