First-Year Sporting CT Wins Northeastern Title

July 7, 2025

Sporting CT was truly one of the surprise teams of the 2025 WPSL season.

In its debut season, Sporting went 9-0-1 to claim the Northeastern Conference title thanks to conference leading performances at both ends of the field.

“A conference championship means a lot to this club,” Tiffany Weimer, Sporting CT player/coach, said. “Our program has a few differently goals throughout the season: provide players an environment to develop for their high school, college and pro teams in the fall, win games and enjoy a style of play that maybe they don’t get to play everywhere they go. Winning the division is just one piece of it, but it allows us more time to play with each other and of course, it’s just more fun when you win.”

Sporting CT kicked off its debut WPSL season in dominant fashion, picking up rattling off six straight wins before falling 2-1 to Merrimack Valley Hawks FC in Mathwek Six. Four more wins capped off the season giving Sporting its first WPSL conference title.

The high-scoring club was led by Weimer with eight goals in 10 appearances for the club, followed by Aubrey Kulpa (Penn State University 2024- ) with seven goals in five appearances, and Abbie Burgess (Central Connecticut State University 2022- ) and Tori Sousa with six goals each.

At the other end of the pitch, Sporting CT allowed 10 goals over the course of the 10-game season. Goalkeepers Caitlin Daley (University of New Haven 2023- ) and (UNC Greensboro 2022- ) combined for a total of five clean sheets on the season.

“One of the biggest challenges the club faced are playing with different lineups throughout the season,” Weimer said. “We are lucky to have a core group of older players whose only season is this season, which helps with some of the cohesiveness of the group. Throughout the year this group plays pickup to prepare for this season being the main event.”

As Northeastern Confernce champions, Sporting CT advances to the East Region Playoffs in Niagara Falls, N.Y. July 12 and 13, with the winner advancing to the WPSL Championships in Stillwater, Okla. July 18 and 20.
