ST. PAUL, Minn. — Kansas City Current II advances to the Central Region Playoffs final tomorrow with a 3-0 win over Austin Rise FC on the campus of University of Northwestern St. Paul Saturday evening.
Sunday’s regional final will be Kansas City Current II’s second regional final appearance—its first coming in 2022.
After a scoreless 45 minutes, Caroline Kelly broke the deadlock to put Kansas City Current II up 1-0 in the first minute of added time before the halftime break. Kansas City rode the momentum of Kelly’s goal into the second half when Naila Schoefberger made it 2-0 in the 47th minute. Syenna Haynesworth made it 3-0 in the 56th minute, leaving the rest to the defense backstopped by Evelyn Vitali, who earned the clean sheet in goal for Kansas City.
With the win, the Midwest Conference champions move to 9-2-1 on the season. Austin’s loss drops the Lone Star Conference winners to 8-2-2 as its season ends.
Kansas City Current II will face Salvo SC in the Central Region Playoff final Sunday in St. Paul. This is the first meeting between the two clubs. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. CDT.
