WILMINGTON, Del. (June 21, 2026) — Currently sitting in the number two slot in the Colonial Division, every goal and win counts for Love City FC to maintain a good bid towards playoffs next month.
Love City FC found itself under pressure early on with a direct kick awarded to Delaware Osprey five yards outside the box. Gabriella Riley serves the ball on the edge of the six-yard
box where City goalkeeper Kaeyla Noble was asked to make her first save of the match. She finished the match with four saves.
Moments later, City is rewarded with their own opportunity on the edge of the box. Gabrielle Marte takes a shot on goal, and it lands in the hands of goalkeeper Grace Keen. The tone of the match has been set.
As both teams head into the 25th minute of the game, a corner is rewarded to City. Taylor Troutman serves the ball into the back post, Ospreys goalkeeper Keen punches the ball away, and it falls to Giovanna Castorina. She hits the bouncing ball on one touch towards the back post for her first goal of the season.
Despite Osprey being awarded several set pieces as the game continued, they were unable to tie the game before the ref blew his whistle for half time.
A few minutes into the second half, Love City FC started with their best foot forward with a direct kick served by Marte, who almost scored her third goal of the season. The match was full of opportunities with Love City FC given a total of six direct kicks, while Ospreys were given ten between the first and second half.
Ospreys tenth direct kick was taken in the final seconds of the match. Riley served the ball to the back post where City cleared it outside the 18-yard-box. Osprey managed to get a second cross into Desiree Zapata, who headed it over the crossbar.
Love City FC’s fight was rewarded by moving up to the seventh slot in the WPSL’s weekly power rankings. City will play their last regular season game on Sunday, June 27 at 7:00PM EST against FC Monmouth in Monmouth to take their final swing at making the playoffs.
