BRANDON, Fla. — Bay City Reign FC fell to West Florida Flames Academy 2-0 on the road to open its inaugural WPSL season.
Bay City fell behind in the fourth minute when Sophia Maxwell put the home side up 1-0 in the fourth minute. Aliyah Couper doubled the lead for the Flames Academy eight minutes later.
After some tactical adjustments at halftime, the second half went much better for Bay City. Goalkeeper Cameron Lasine was credited with five goal-stopping saves that kept Bay City in the game.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted, but the team showed they can play a full 90 minutes with heart and resilience,” Edwin Paiz, Bay City Reign FC head coach, said. “We can build on our effort and look forward to our next game.”
