After a seven-season absence, The Little Rock Rangers SC made a triumphant return to the WPSL going unbeaten to win the Mississippi Delta Conference.
“I’m incredibly proud of what this group accomplished this season. To go unbeaten, score 40 goals while conceding just three, record seven clean sheets, and clinch the conference title with a match to play is a testament to the commitment and consistency these players showed every day,” Tyler Mynard, Little Rock Rangers SC head coach, said.
The club opened the season with a statement-making 5-0 home win over Shreveport United behind a brace by Kendyl Terrell, and single goals by Jama Akpanudo, Peyton Siebenmann, and Samantha De Luca.
De Luca and Ella Dietz led the side in scoring with six each, accounting for 12 of the club’s 40 goals over the 10 fixtures.
Both De Luca and Dietz were honored for their goal-scoring prowess, earning South Region Offensive Player of the Week honors: De Luca in Week Four and Dietz in Week Eight.
Rangers would go on to produce six straight wins, topping Hattiesburg FC, LA Krewe Rush, and Mississippi Blues SC at home, and Mississippi Blues SC, Hattiesburg FC on the road before being held to a 0-0 draw at Shreveport United in Week Seven.
After a pair of wins over Baton Rouge United in Week Eight, Rangers went into the final game of the regular season in Lafayette, La. Versus LA Krewe Rush with the conference title already in hand.
Megan Gettys scored the opening goal, followed by a pair of Dietz goals to carry Rangers to a 3-0 win. Goalkeeper Rylie LeBlanc earned the clean sheet in goal.
LeBlanc, along with Maysa Willis made up Rangers’ goalkeeping corps that combines for seven clean sheets, conceding only three goals, tying it with four other clubs nation-wide for lowest number of goals against on the season.
“I’m incredibly proud of the way this team came together,” Mynard said. “We had 34 players ranging in age from 14 to 25 from different backgrounds come together with one common goal. They brought an incredible spirit and attitude to every training session and every match, pushed each other to improve, and made it a joy to coach. That’s what makes this championship so meaningful.”
As Mississippi Delta Conference champions, Little Rock Rangers SC advance to the South Region Playoffs July 11 and 12 in Woodstock, Ga.
