OKLAHOMA CITY (May 4, 2026) — U.S. Soccer and the U.S. Soccer Adult Council announced earlier this week a rematch of the 2025 WPSL Championships Final as Sporting CT and the California Storm face off in the inaugural Brandi Chastain Cup Final Saturday June 6, at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex in Davis, Calif.
Last July, Sporting CT topped the California Storm 4-0 to win its first WPSL title in Stillwater, Okla. in its first year in the league. In 2024, the Storm topped the Charlotte Eagles to win its record fifth WPSL championship.
“Having our past two champions competing for the inaugural Brandi Chastain Cup highlights the work that the entire WPSL community has done to promote women’s soccer for the past 28 seasons,” Sean Jones, WPSL president, said.
The Brandi Chastain Cup is U.S. Soccer’s women’s amateur national championship tournament, featuring representatives from the country’s top amateur and pre-professional leagues providing a pathway to national recognition and a platform for the continued elevation of women’s soccer across the United States.
The tournament honors the legacy of WPSL alumna, Brandi Chastain, whose legendary penalty kick in the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final ignited a generation of American soccer players. Chastain’s career with the USWNT included two World Cup titles and two Olympic gold medals.
“The Brandi Chastain Cup represents everything we believe in at U.S. Soccer—excellence, opportunity, and the power of the women’s game to inspire the next generation,” Michael Lazar, senior vice-president, strategy at U.S. Soccer, said. “We are thrilled to see two outstanding programs competing for this honor, and we look forward to an unforgettable final in Davis.”
The 2024 WPLS champions California Storm will host the historic final at its home ground, Davis Legacy Sport Park in Davis, Calif. The match will be streamed live on Youtube. Broadcast, ticket, and media credential information will be distributed in the coming weeks.
A founding member of the WPSL, the California Storm is the winningest team in league history. The Storm competes in the WPSL’s Sacramento Valley Division of the NorCal Conference. The Storm won its first of five WPSL titles in 1999 a year after the league was founded, followed by titles in 2002, 2004, 2022, and 2024. Over its 28-year tenure in the WPSL, the Storm has won 17 conference titles, eight regional titles, and made eight WPSL Championships appearances. In 2026, the California Storm was recognized by the U.S. Soccer Adult Council with the Jerry Zanelli Outstanding Amateur Women’s Club award. Before his untimely death, Zanelli founded and coached the California Storm. His teams included icons of the game including Chastain,
Julie Foudy, Leslie Osborn, and Alex Morgan. Following Zanelli’s untimely death in 2018, Jamie Levoy continued his legacy as Storm coach and executive director.
Sporting CT burst into the national spotlight winning the 2025 WPSL championship in its first season in the league. Based in Middleton, Conn., the club is rapidly making a name for itself as one of the top developmental teams in the nation, placing players in top collegiate and international professional clubs. Sporting is led by player/coach Tiffany Weimer and coach Matt Cameron. Along with her coaching duties, Weimer led the club with 12 goals enroute to the WPSL championship, including goals in both the WPSL Championships semifinal and final. In recognition of Sporting CT’s incredible success both on and off the field, the club was awarded the 2025 Kendra Halterman Outstanding Amateur Women’s Team award by U.S. Soccer’s Adult Council.
“Our entire organization and member clubs are very proud to be represented by these two incredible organizations that represent both the old and new guards of the WPSL,” Jones said.
