DAVIS, Calif. — California Storm advanced to the West Region Final with a 3-0 win over So Cal Union FC Saturday night at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex in Davis, Calif.
Dalia Asad continued her torrid scoring streak with a brace, and Erica Grilione added a goal in the win for the five-time WPSL champions.
With the win, Storm moved to 11-1-0 on the season. So Cal Union FC finished 5-2-3.
Storm, playing on its home ground, came out swinging. Grilione put the NorCal Conference champions up 1-0 in the fifth minute, forcing So Cal Union FC to chase the game early.
So Cal Union held Storm for the next 40 minutes until Asad tallied the first of her two goal in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time. Her third came in the 80th minute to make it 3-0 and end any hope for a So Cal Union comeback.
Storm goalkeeper Abbie Faingold posted her seventh clean sheet and has allowed only three goals in WPSL play.
With the win, California Storm returns to the West Region Final for a record 11th time. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. PDT at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.
