WPSL alumnae account for 15 of the 24 players on Heather Dyche’s Under-23 USWNT called into a week-long camp in South Florida starting February 27, including three players who featured in the 2025 WPSL season. The camp will culminate with two matches versus Mexico’s Under-23 Women’s National team March 3 and 6 at Florida International University in Miami.
Twenty-one of the 24 called into the camp come from the professional ranks: 19 from NWSL squads and two from the USL Super League. The camp is rounded out by three WPSL alumnae with remaining collegiate eligibility: Sydney Cheesman, Sierra Sythe, and Hope Leyba. Both Sythe and Leyba played in the WPSL last season.
Sythe, who is entering her junior year of eligibility after redshirting in 2023, earned West Region Defensive Player of Matchweek Five, National Defensive Player of Matchweek Five and All-SoCal Conference Honorable Mention playing with Beach Futbol Club last season.
Entering her final year of eligibility, Leyba was a semifinalist for the 2025 MAC Hermann Trophy after tallying 22 goals for Colorado in 2025. Leyba played in 2025 and 2023 for Royals AZ.
“Hope Leyba has been a cornerstone of our club and a true representation of what our pathway is designed to develop. At the club level, she set the standard every day through her work ethic, consistency, and leadership. Her impact carried directly into our WPSL environment, where she competed confidently against top-level players and proved she belonged on the national stage. Watching Hope now take the next step with the U-23 National Team is a proud moment for our entire club. Her journey reflects years of commitment, resilience, and believe in the process. She serves as a powerful example to every player in our program of what is possible through dedication and passion.” - Tiffany Roberts, Royals AZ head coach, said.
Carolyn Calzada rounds out the trio called into the U-23 camp of players who saw WPSL action in 2025. The UFA Gunners star played in 2024 and 2025 while starring collegiately at Texas A&M and the University of Notre Dame.
“The UFA Gunners family is extremely proud of Caroline Calzada being called up for the U-23 National Team this month. This is a proud moment for all of us who have witness her hard work, discipline, and heart every single day during her collegiate and WPSL career.” - Iggy Moleka, UFA Gunners head coach and executive director, said.
The Under-23 USWNT camp takes place from Feb. 27 to March 7, featuring two matches versus the Under-23 Mexico Women’s National Team March 3 and 6.
