Almost a year after the club's founding, San Diego Parceiro Ladies FC will finally compete in their first official Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) match against crosstown rival San Diego SeaLions on May 20th.

Parceiro forms part of the West Region's Pac South Conference along with four other clubs: the SeaLions, FC Tucson Women, LA Galaxy San Diego and Phoenix Del Sol.

The match is also the first home match of the regular season for Parceiro and marks the first installment of what will be known as the three-club San Diego Derby, which includes crosstown rival LA Galaxy San Diego.

Parceiro made news recently with the April 24th announcement of Lev Kirshner as the club's coach. Kirshner is San Diego State University men's soccer coach, a position he has held for the past 19 years.

"My first head coaching job was on the women’s side, and I truly enjoyed coaching women; it brings in many different dynamics and personal coaching challenges and development for me," Kirshner said. "My expectations are that we will play hard, for each other, and play a good brand of football, much the same as any team I coach."

Saturday's match will be a trial by fire of sorts for the recently formed SD Parceiro Ladies given the SeaLions' history and success that they have achieved. In addition to winning the 2013 WPSL championship, the SeaLions also made the semifinals last season, the finals as recently as 2016 and won the Pac-South the past two seasons.

"We have new league owners, a new coaching staff, new players and new opponents, but we are excited to see what we can bring to the table after 30 years of excellence in San Diego," SeaLions coach Lu Snyder said. "It’s exciting to see new teams come into the league building on what we started 20 seasons ago".

Regadless of the outcome, this match will provide Parceiro valuable experience in anticipation for when the two clubs meet again on June 16th at Cathedral High School in San Diego.

Ahead of the 2018 season, Parceiro affiliated itself with AC Nagano Parceiro Ladies of the Japanense women's first division. With the affiliation, the club's name was changed from San Diego Zest FC to Parceiro along with the creation of a new club logo.

"It has already helped the team by its existence," Kirshner said. "The future is hard to determine or predict, but having the relationship will only provide benefits to all those involved."

The match between Parceiro and the SeaLions is 3 p.m. PDT at James Madison High School in San Diego.
