By Matchweek Four, it was clear first-year club, Internationals SC was for real, posting six straight wins without conceding a single goal. A win and a 0-0 draw—the first blemish on the club’s otherwise perfect record—in Matchweek Seven earned Internationals SC the Lake Erie Division title.
“We are thrilled to win the division championship in our inaugural season in the WPSL. Winning attracts winners, and we anticipate that the success this year will help us build momentum for future years in the league,” Keri Sarver, Internationals SC head coach, said. “It is also inspiring our younger players to dream big and work hard to reach the next level.”
With division title in hand, Internationals close out its regular-season slate on Saturday at home against Niagara 1812, the only club to take points off Internationals all season.
“The biggest highlight this season was welcoming back some of our alumnae who grew up in the club,” Sarver said. “Seeing them back in an Internationals’ uniform, playing quality attacking soccer is a great sense of pride for us.”
Internationals led the Lake Erie Division in both offensive and defensive categories, tallying 21 goals in seven games so far. Tanji Sarver leads all scorers with four goals on the season, followed by Margey Brown (Duquesne University 2022- ), Amelia Swinarski (Louisville University 2024- ), and Grace Jackson (Michigan State University 2024- ) with three.
Internationals have been all but unbeatable on the defensive end. Avery Gilligan (Iowa State University 2022- ) leads the division-leading defense, allowing just a single goal with one game remaining on the schedule.
Internationals SC closes out its debut WPSL season Saturday hosting Niagara 1812 Saturday at Krenzler Field on the campus of Cleveland State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (EDT). Watch the game live or on-demand on the National Soccer Network.
